Free travel
insurance with your credit card?
A lot of credit card issuers offer free travel accident
insurance if you buy a package holiday and use their card
to pay for it. This travel accident insurance pays out a
lump sum if you die or if you are seriously disabled while
travelling. It is of limited value to most people and no
substitute for proper travel insurance – although
proper travel insurance is offered free with some gold cards.
You may also find that you get free comprehensive travel
insurance if you belong to a frequent-travellers’
loyalty scheme and have reached a certain membership level.
However, do not make a decision not to buy your own travel
insurance until you have made sure that the free insurance
on offer gives you the cover you need.
