Personal
liability & Travel Insurance
This part of the policy is to cover you if you are legally
liable to pay compensation because you have injured someone
or damaged their property. If you cannot extend the personal
liability cover under your contents insurance, you should
aim for minimum cover from your travel insurance of £1
million, or £2 million if you are travelling in the
USA.
What is covered
This section of the policy should cover you for costs that
you are legally required to pay because you have done something
that results in:
• Someone unrelated to you being injured or becoming
ill
• Damage to someone else’s property
• Damage to your holiday accommodation (e.g. your
hotel room or rented apartment) unless it belongs to you
or a member of your family.
What is not covered
The personal liability part of your travel insurance policy
will not pay out if the claim:
• Is a result of your driving a car or motorbike –
which should be covered by your car or motorbike insurance
• Was caused by your piloting a boat or plane –
you would need other insurance to cover this
• Is from a member of your family
• Is for damage to a property owned by you or a member
of your family
• Could be paid for by other insurance you may have
(e.g. your contents insurance)
• Is for damage which you caused on purpose or which
was caused by your being careless
• Is related to any paid work you have done
• Is as a result of damage done by your pet.
